In early June, the MayerLab traded the lab for the Bavarian mountains and set out to climb Jochberg. We had carefully timed our hike to dodge the worst of the rain showers, taking shelter at various rest spots along the way. This strategy worked surprisingly well — until the rain finally caught up with us shortly before we reached our afternoon break spot.
Despite the wet finish, the hike was a great success. We covered around 700 meters of elevation gain, enjoyed spectacular views over the surrounding mountains and lakes, and managed to take a new group photo in suitably dramatic scenery. A special highlight was spotting numerous salamanders along the trail — a first for many members of the group.
