Stefan grew up in the countryside of Lower Bavaria and completed both his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich. For his bachelor’s thesis in the Bach group, he investigated the synthesis of structural fragments of Pulvomycin D. During his master’s studies, he conducted research internships in the groups of Bach, Lercher, and Hintermann. He completed his master’s thesis in the latter, focusing on catalytic tertiary alkylation reactions of heterocycles. During this work, he noticed that NMR spectra from a guy called Robert Mayer had been incorrectly uploaded to the group’s LOGS account. In August 2024, he joined the MayerLab as the first PhD student.
Fun Facts
- Stefan’s family owns a hop farm, but he has only brewed his own beer once.
- He once caught fire in Cologne Cathedral.
- Stefan is an avid player of 4X and real-time strategy games.
