Mikhail (Michael) was born in Russia and grew up near Stuttgart. During the course of his Bachelors and subsequent Masters studies at TUM, he developed an increasing interest in synthetic organic chemistry and decided to specialize organic synthesis with an internship at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research as well as his Masters thesis on the selective editing of natural products in the Group of Prof. Storch. After completing his Masters, he spent six months as an intern in the Medicinal Chemistry Department at Roche in Basel. There, he witnessed the impact of HTE, AI and automation and decided to join the group of Prof. Robert Mayer to learn more about these technologies and how they can be used to predict reactions. Apart from chemistry, Mikhail likes to relax by playing either the piano or video games, as well as reading.
Fun Facts
- If becoming a palaeontologist was more of a viable career path, he would have chosen to become one. His fascination for all kinds of prehistoric (and of course current) animals remains!
- A former keeper of various invertebrates such as spiders and a scorpion, he retired this hobby several years ago out of consideration for his girlfriend.
- Since earning his Open Water Diver certification, he wishes that Germany had more tropical diving sites. Fortunately, hiking in the nearby mountains is a solid alternative.
